An Analysis of a Facebook post by a Critic of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

An Analysis of a Facebook post by a Critic of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (his words are in black, my comments are in blue) When I read something criticizing the Church I like to find out a little bit about the author's background.  Thanks to the internet there is usually some information available.  This person appears to be a former member of the Church.  I don’t know the nature of his dissatisfaction, whether it was doctrinal or started out as some other disagreement of another kind.  He is now a professional or semi-professional apologist for his "traditional", "biblical" Christian faith. This includes defending the faith against Latter-day Saint theology and its implications. I am sure he has some well written and thought-provoking articles to his credit. The Great Prophet-centered Church Video Controversy: Exhibit B compiled by Fred W. Anson The first indication that the critique will contain fallacies is calling it a "controversy...

Dear Fellow Christian, Why do You Think I am not a Christian?

Have you ever heard that Mormons are not Christians?  I have heard this many times over the years from others that said they were a Christian. I am a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since my high school days, about 45 years ago.  Over these years I have studied the doctrines we teach and attended other churches and studied their doctrines to better understand them. Is Mormonism Christian or not? If so on what basis and if not on what basis?  Is Joseph Smith a prophet or not?  Is the Book of Mormon another testament of Jesus Christ or not? I find that a simple doctrinal understanding taught in the Book of Mormon demonstrates how classical trinitarian theologians teach the philosophies of men and how Mormonism makes the stronger case for Christianity than they do. The Fall of Adam and Eve To examine the Christianity of Mormonism let's take one of the better-known stories in the Bible. A chapter in the  Book of Mormon ...

Eternal Christianity in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

My search for truth is based on some simple observations, The world exists and so do we. Was there a divine creator or not?  If so then what demonstrates the nature of this being or beings? Who is authorized to speak for God? Can we identify actual eternal unchangeable truth? Can we communicate directly with God, and if so how do we do so?  Do we even care about the answers to these questions?  If so then a host of other questions should come to our minds. Are there answers or not?  I found answers to my questions about God, the purpose of life and our eternal destiny as individuals and families in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints over 45 years ago. When asked what my faith is about, my response is that Mormonism is eternal Christianity. It is charity, service and the love of  God extended to his children. If you have heard much about Mormons, chances are it wasn’t from a Mormon and there is probably some misunderstanding attached to it...

Gender, Sex and the Eternal Human Soul

Posted by Charles Brown What is the nature of our soul and does it endure beyond death? How can a purposeful life be established without knowing something about the eternal principles or laws by which we exist? As we look at the endless creations in a vast cosmos do we ponder our place? Are we eternal beings with great potential or temporary flashes of electrochemical or random cosmic energy lacking any significance at all? What is the human soul? Is there an eternal aspect to our existence? If so how is it discovered? With what theological understanding can we define the soul with some specificity?  We generally adhere to sound scientific or medical advise, or at least we should. Do we adhere to sound theological or philosophical teachings as well, or do we prefer our own notions or those of some self-appointed professor's opinion that temporarily soothes our mortal minds? From my theological definition I understand that the soul is the spirit united with a body. At prese...
